Adding a Print Queue in Windows

The instructions below are for devices running Windows 10.

Note that you may need to download the latest driver for the printer from HP; see https://support.hp.com/us-en for most of our printers.

Summary

For example, to add the HH-303 HPLJ M630 network printer, browse to \\mathprint.mcmaster.ca, right-click on HH-303 HPLJ M630 and select Connect.

Procedure: Browse the Server for the Printer

  1. Click the Start button, type \\mathprint.mcmaster.ca\ and press Enter.

  3. A list of shared folders and printers will appear; right-click on the printer you wish to connect to and choose Connect ...

If you see the following, it means that you have no suitable printer drivers for your selected printer. You will need to download and run the installer for the printer drivers. But sometimes you may not be able to proceed successfully step by step through the installer, for example if you are setting this up remotely. In this case, just run the installer and let it auto-extract the relevant files, and then exit. When prompted with the following "No driver found" dialog box, click OK to choose your driver manually.

Once you click OK, the Add Printer Wizard will pop up. Click on "Have Disk...", and then click on "Browse..." in the next window that pops up.

Navigate to the directory to which HP's installer extracted the drivers, and it should auto-select the file hpcm630c.inf. Click Open, and then click OK.

Next, make sure to choose the correct printer. In this example, we are going to choose HP LaserJet MFP M630 PCL 6.

You may get a User Account Control pop-up asking "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?". Click Yes to proceed.

  4. Once Windows adds the printer, click the Start button and type "Printers & scanners", and press Enter. Click on the newly added printer and choose Manage, and then click on Printer properties.

  5. Adjust the printer configuration on the Device Settings tab; the options for each printer are described on the Main Printers page; most importantly verify/select the following:
    1. Under Installable Options, Duplex Unit is "Installed"
    2. Under Installable Options, Tray 3 is set to "HP 500-sheet Input Tray"
    3. Under Form To Tray Assignment, Tray 3 is set to "Letter"
    4. Click Apply if needed, then click OK.

Either during setup or when you first print, you will be asked for your ms username in the MATH\username format, and your ms password (unless you have recently accessed a network folder on the server).
