The instructions below are for devices running Windows 10, and connected to Mac-WiFi.
It is a good idea to first download and install the latest driver for the printer before adding the printer. We are going to grab the HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PostScript.
Summary
Add \\physprt.mcmaster.ca\laser326
as a network printer, using PHYSICS\username
and your physserv password.
Procedure
- Download and install the HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PostScript, which you downloaded from the link above.
- Click the Start button, type
printers
, and click on Printers & scanners. - Click the
+
button. Let Windows search for the printers a bit, then click on the text The printer that I want isn't listed. This will bring up the Add Printer wizard. - Click on Select a shared printer by name and type:
\\physprt.mcmaster.ca\laser326
Click Next to continue. - You should get prompted to enter your physserv username and password. However, you must specify the PHYSICS domain, in the format of
PHYSICS\username
. You can tick the box Remember my credentials if you do not wish to get asked for this every time you want to print.
Click OK to continue. - Windows should then be trying to look for the proper printer drivers automatically. It might fail and give you the following message:
You might need to manually specify HP Universal Printing PS
Click OK to continue. - Windows will say you're successful.
Click Next to continue, and then click Finish in the next screen. - When printing, be sure to select the printer you want to use. You'll then be presented with a screen that looks like the following screenshot. It could take a while, and can even seem to be frozen or not responding. Just give it some time.
Click the Enter a Printer Address... link. You'll then be asked to enter the printer's UNC path. Enter it as shown in the screenshot below:
You may get prompted to enter your credentials once more. Remember to specify the PHYSICS domain, as show below:
Click Connect to proceed. Once that finishes, click Print to send the job to the printer. It is a good idea to print something to see if the printer has been set up correctly. - If you have already connected to this printer previously, it should be listed in the Recently Used Printers section.
