How to install the printer driver for the colour laser printer in ABB241 while using physics common wireless access points

This instruction is for the colour laser printer in ABB241. The printer model is hp clj4700dn, with one additional 500 page paper tray. Tray 2 is for transparency, and Tray 3 is for plain paper. The printer has 256MB of ram. Your must use postscript printer driver. All printing jobs must be sent through printer server physprt

Windows XP

First, download clj4700ps.zip and unzip to an empty folder.

Now click Start->Printers and Faxes->Add a printer. The Add Printer Wizard starts, click "Next". Select "A network printer, or printer attached to another computer", and then "Next". Select "Connect to this printer". In the box below it, type

\\physprt\clj

Click Next, A window pops up states that the server does not have the correct driver installed. Click "OK". The driver selection window pops up. Click "Have Disk.." Browse to the location you saved the driver, select hpc4700d.inf, click "Open" and then "OK". Select "HP Color Laserjet 4700 PS", and then "OK"



Wait until the driver get installed, it may take some time. Choose whether to use this printers as default, Click "Next" and then "Finish".

Finally, configure the driver:
Right click on "clj on physprt" icon, select "Properties".
Select "Device Settings".
Set "Tray 3" to "Installed" in Installable Options section
Back to near top,
set "Tray 3" to "Letter" in Form to Tray Assignment section and then press OK
Set "Printer Memory" to 288 MB

Click "OK".

To print to transparencies, choose "Properties.." in the print dialog. In the Paper/Quality tab,
select source is: Tray 2

To print to double sides of paper, choose "Properties.." in the print dialog. In the Finishing tab,
tick "Print On Both Sides" box.

Windows 7 / Vista

Start->Devices and printers (Start->Control panel->Printers on vista). Click Add a Printer-> Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer
Click "stop", and "The printer I want itsn't listed"
Choose "Select a shared printer by name". In the box below it, type

\\physprt\clj

Click "Next". A window pops up states that "no driver found". Click "OK".
In Manufacturer, select "HP". In Printers, Select "HP Color Laserjet 4700 PS"

Click "OK".
Click "Next".
Click "Print a test page"
Click "Close" to dismiss the test page popup
Click "Finish".

Right click the newly installed printer, "Printer Properties" ("Properties" for vista).
Click "Device Settings" Tab.
Set in "Installed Options":

  Duplex Unit = Installed, 
  Printer Hard disc = Not Installed, 
  Job Storage = Disabled.

Set Avaliable postscript memory to 32676 (The actual memory for driver is 70MB, 32676K is the largest value one can set with the devices setting dialog without use regedit). Click "OK".
Below is the screen shot for device settings on a win7 system. The actual printer memory is 288MB, the picture shows the closest value.
