[Deprecated] Photocopier (Sharp MX5500N)
IMPORTANT: This page is no longer maintained and contains information for legacy operating systems that are no longer supported by McMaster University.
In order to use the photocopier, you will need to install the appropriate driver.
Windows XP
Download sharp-MX-5500N.zip, and unzip it.- Click on setup.exe
- Click on "standard setup"
- If the copier is not found, click on Specify Condition...,
- Type in 130.113.172.49
- Click on search
- Select the copier, phys-copier.physics.mcmaster.ca, or IP=130.113.172.49
- Click on Next
- Click next
- Select PCL6
- Click Next - Select "no" for default printer question.
- Click Next
- Click Next
- Installation process begins
- Click OK.
- The driver is now installed.
Now we need to auto configure:
- Click Start
- Select Printers and Faxes
- Right click on SHARP MX-5500N PCL6
- Select Properties
- Then Configuration
- Then Auto Configuration
- Check those items with a hand
- Click OK
- Click OK
The first time you use this copier as a printer, you must tell the printer driver which account number to use. In your application, do
- Select File
- Then Print
- Select SHARP MX-5500N PCL6
- Click on Properties
- Then Job handling
- Select "User Number"
- Enter your account number
- Click OK
The job handling dialog box looks like this:
Windows 7 / 8
Download 32 or 64 bit drive from Sharp for 64 bit, it is "WINDOWS 64BIT OS PRINT DRIVER PACKAGE FOR C-DRG-VENUS.ZIP". Unpack, You will see drive for "PCL6_PS_PPD printer drive_64.zip". Unpack it again. Now run "WHQL PCL6_PS_PPD Printer Driver_64 bit.exe".
choose Custom installation. select "LPR Direct Print".
Click Next
Enter ip 130.113.172.49
Click Next.
Select "MX5500N"
Click Next
Select PCL6
Select "No"
Click Next->Next->Next->OK
The driver is now installed. We need to do an auto configure.
Right click the just added printer, SHARP MX-5500N PCL6, select "Printer Properties".
Click on configuration, Auto Configuration. Select all items mark by a hand.
click "OK"->"OK"
The first time you use this copier as a printer, you must tell the printer driver which account number to use. In your application, do
- File->Print - Select SHARP MX-5500N PCL6 - click on Properties->Job handling - Select "User Number" and enter your account number - Click OK
OSX
Depend on your OS version, download either
MXCOLOR-1807-OSX10.4.TGZ or MXCOLOR-1106-OSX10.5.TGZ
Expand it and install it in the standard mac way.
You then use "System Preferences" -> "Print & Fax" to add printer.
Click "+" -> "IP printer".
Enter
"130.113.172.49" for address.
"copier" for Name.
"Print Using" line should be filled with "SHARP MX-5500N PPD". If not, select that.
The dialog looks like this:
Click "Add".
Change
"Output Tray Options" to ""Finisher".
The dialog looks like this:
Click "Continue". The printer driver is now installed.
Next, tell the printer driver which account number to use. In an application, do File->Print. When the print dialog pops up, click on the option selection pull down and select "Job Handling". Select "User Number", fill in your account number, and click on the lock button. Click on "Print". The account number should be remembered now. There is no need to change the job ID secton, it will be filled up automatically. The dialog looks like this:
