Creating / Publishing Personal Websites

There are a number of sites are maintained on the departmental server ms.mcmaster.cathese are pages that do not need to conform to the standard McMaster templates and are maintained by individual faculty, staff, or graduate students.

Your ms.mcmaster.ca home directory has a folder called public_html where you can create / publish your personal website.

Access from Servers and Workstations

public_html should appear in your home directory on the server or any of the departmental workstations. If you don't see the folder, create it like so:

cd ~
mkdir public_html
chmod o+x . public_html

Access via sftpFrom any computer, on campus or off, you can sftp to ms.mcmaster.ca and browse to the folder public_html in your home directory.
Access from Mac OS XIn the Finder, click Go -> Connect to Server... and enter smb://ms.mcmaster.ca/username and then browse to public_html.
Access from WindowsClick Start -> Run and enter \\ms.mcmaster.ca\username and then browse to public_html.

*Note: If accessing ms.mcmaster.ca from off-campus, please first connect to the McMaster VPN.
