ms.mcmaster.ca is the central server for the department: it handles email, web sites, authentication, holds most home directories and provides access to files and software via sftp and smb (shares unix folders to Windows, OS X and linux clients using Windows file-sharing protocol). There is no computing software on ms.mcmaster.ca: one should use it directly only to read mail, access files.
